Hell of a Season

Gothic fashion is not a thing of season , and it shouldn't be. But different places around the world, have a different climate and a warmer county can easily make the life of a Goth/ Alt person a bit harder.  But a higher temperature shouldn't be enough to prevent the  lifestyler from having fun in
(or maybe avoiding?) the sun.

Here are some of my tips for the upcoming season:

Keep your fabrics up to season

I know how pretty form fitting clothes are,and that black vinyl/pleather/velvet fabrics look great, but  during summer we should really think about turning our wardrobe into more flowy and breathable materials. Black as a color and dark shades in general  have a tendency to absorb the sunlight and therefore the heat, so we shouldn't be putting more stress to the look .

Heavier fabrics not only make our skin suffocate and produce more sweat than usual but they also tend to make the whole outfit look too "cluttered" and out of place... Like on most casual people, wouldn't it be weird to see someone with thigh high leather boots in the middle of summer..?

Goth is way easier to pull out during winter but even in the summer, the alternatives are plenty!

Try to wear more chiffon, lace and cotton materials on wider lines, stay away thigh high cotton socks ,leather/pleather high boots  and if you feel too revealing to go out on just a  dress or skirt or maybe shorts , try to use wider cut out/fishnet patterned stockings to provide those extra skin breathing room. Halter and spaghetti strap tops may be of good use and strapless cuts will definitely come in handy if you live the southern parts of the globe!

Gear up!

Layering is in the goth's nature so putting it in good use would really give that extra accent to your summer outfit! Following the fabric guidelines , opt for lace/chiffon kimonos or throws to cover up the upper torso area, dainty necklaces and chokers instead of collars, cuff gloves to prevent the sweaty palms, summer wide brimmed hats to block sun exposure and nice lightweight parasols for that dreamy romantic flavor! depending ot the parasol style you can alternate the look toward different directions as well.

I cant stress enough though that not all hats are appropriate hats for any season just because they keep Mr sun away.

Just like clothes, different hats are for different temperature conditions , so a wool hat that may be divine during winter and early spring season , may sweat and grease your hair and result in an off putting look. For an extra "breeze" a lot of companies offer  hand fan options so maybe you should look into it!

Tone down the face

General rule, thick makeup in summer results in oily looking skin and lots of sweat. Tone down the face makeup and use as less as you are comfortable with to help your face look amazing while you are out. If you can stay away from makeup products, you should really consider carrying a toner water spritzer with you to refresh and hydrate the skin when you're on the go! Huge help provides a hairdo that leaves your neckline uncovered .

Your neck , wrists and elbow joints are the places with the most blood flow , so letting them breath at all times helps crucially the rest of your body temp!

It's an easy way to stress your hair less with all those heat styling tools too. A lot of people tend to use different makeup products depending on the season but if your budget doesn't allow such moves (like me :p ), then just put less! makeup becomes powder, lip creams leave room for lip pencils and so on... and never EVER forget your UV protection!

While northern countries don't deal with that much of a temp problem, goths of the southern hemisphere have a harder time dealing with the weather. So, in this hell of a season, there is no real reason not to enjoy life! Just gear up , tone down and you're good to go!
